"Nextcloud is a counter-model to typical cloud-solutions from big US vendors like Microsoft" says Der Spiegel in their article about why the German Federal Government chose #nextcloud as their secure file exchange solution.

I discovered the #Symfony library today. It's super impressive! It offers an extensible, elegant HTTP request handling model. I'm going to use it in my #ActivityPub #PHP library. The library is shaping up really well - it's shaping up to be a full ActivityPub server that can be plugged directly into your existing application with minimal fuss, and extended to meet a broad range of needs.
Saying that "Pixelfed federates now" and at the same time saying that "not really, please don't update yet" is weird. It's not ready yet. It was just a pressure to release _something_. It will only boost centralization in the end.
I don't know about you, but I'm so tired of this that I don't want to use Pixelfed even when it's ready. This stream of promises and half-truths and hype breaks my trust.

Until now, I've been using riseup VPN Black. The new service promises to be even simpler, as it comes without any registration or configuration. So far, it makes a stable impression on me, especially considering the beta status. Have you tried it?
The New York Times reports Facebook gave Microsoft, Amazon, Spotify, Netflix, Apple, Yandex, Yahoo and others far more access to users' data than previously admitted, including access to private messages:
There is never going to be a better time to #DeleteFacebook, the violations are only going to get worse.

And I feel that in a few years time the world will see the fediverse as the standard way to organise social networks and all.
First I opened an account at mastadon.social but afterwards I realized that the true strength of the federation is shown in having a personal Mastodon instance and I set up https://mastodon.chrisbol.nl/
In light of the FusionTables shut-down announcement yesterday we need to think about the durability and sustainability of online data journalism -- especially the interactive pieces.
The Guardian "warlogs" interactive from 2010 is 404ing and embedded FusionTables are already down https://www.theguardian.com/warlogs
The "dark age of data journalism" seems to be here already https://www.vox.com/2015/11/9/9623002/data-journalism-archive
I'm wondering if I made the wrong thing with #Pterotype, and I'd love some feedback.
The problem I was trying to solve was how to put WordPress content on the Fediverse, but more generally I want to put all sorts of content on the Fediverse.
I'm starting to feel like the best way to achieve that would be by making a generic #ActivityPub client & server implementation, rather than a WordPress-specific server. Then the WordPress plugin could just be a client to the server implementation.
